Menu Blue Jeans to Black Tie Auction ZAP Saturday Tasting

Zinfandel
is alive and well, if ZAP (Zinfandel Advocates and Producers)
2003 was
any indication. The 4-day festival, held January 22-25, gave 291
wineries the opportunity to pour their wines for more than 10,000
attendees over that period, and much of the feedback heard by this
taster was positive, especially with regard to the wines themselves.
While there were many ‘99s and 2000s tasted, the focal point of this
year’s ZAP was 2001, a stellar vintage, by all
accounts.
Since we last attended ZAP in
1999, another event has been added, Flights of Fancy: A Regional
Showcase of California Zinfandels, held at COPIA: The American Center
for Wine, Food & the Arts in Napa. That, along with
Good Eats
& Zin, Evening With The Winemakers - Blue Jeans to Black
Tie Auction, and
the big 12th Annual Zinfandel Tasting made up the schedule, but due to
time constraints, I was only able to cover the latter two. Still,
I was able to get a good feel for what’s happening with Zinfandel
these days, and a lot of it is good. Also included in this report
are the observations of our own Left Coast Correspondent, Allan Bree and
our good friend Henry (hank) Harris.
